Security @ airport

I went to Chennai last weekend for recruitment trip. My flight from Bangalore is delayed by more than 1 hour. The fog in Delhi didn't help either. The airport was crowded. It took almost an hour to complete the security check. I can witness upbeat of the Indian economy in the airport. Also, I saw how Bangalore infrastructure is crumbled. I also witnessed how Trilogy India had grown in the past 3 - 4 years. Before 2-3 years it will be very difficult to see a Trilogian in a public place. I saw 4-5 Trilogians in the airport.

Coming to the point of the post, Why do we need such security mechanism in the airport? Why is security more important when flying than travelling in train/bus? Even in trains, terrorist can plant a bomb resulting in hundreds of life. But the security for train travellers didn't improve at all.

I agree that chances of attack is little bit high compare to other modes of transport but that doesn't mean that it has to be given such an importance. With infrastructure not scaling to accomodate 1000 air travellers in one hour, Government should really start thinking of other ways...Not sure, how these things are handled in developed countries. May be we should investigate on those areas and try to mimic some of those.
